Volvo has done the unthinkable. The Swedish automaker has upped the ante in the uber cool department by adding the much needed ‘oomph’ factor in the new S60 T6. The 2011 S60 T6 claims to be “naughty” and, going by the tagline, it is not just a tease. With 304 bhp, the S60 is responsive and downright quick. Combined with a turbocharger for additional performance, the 3-litre unit is loaded with urge. Maximum torque of 440 Nm kicks in from just 2000 rpm, so acceleration is brisk, with abundant power remaining on tap throughout the rev range.Another benefit of the turbocharged engine is that it doesn’t lose power at higher elevations, where naturally-aspirated engines easily run out of breath. In some ways the torque masks the less impressive six-speed transmission, which is often too eager to change into higher gears. The only error or omission we felt was that the sportiest Volvo ever made deserved paddle shifts. There’s a charismatic whirr under hard acceleration, but otherwise the engine is refined and quiet. The engine never protests even when you’re all the way up to its 6000 rpm redline. The S60 is not as sharp as its German counterparts as the steering still lacks quick response that lets you feel the road through your fingertips. Even though the wheel is a tad heavy it won’t dissuade you from trying to push the car to go where no Volvo has ever dreamt of before. The ride quality of the S60 is superb. Even with 18-inch runflats, the S60 does not crash into potholes ensuring it isn’t a tear-jerking experience. A hint of firmness, slight bouncing and jiggling is felt but the trade-off is a more surefooted feel at speed. Another plus is that the cabin is completely isolated from road and wind noise. Volvo’s latest pedestrian safety technology is a first in the S60. The “Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake” uses radar and a camera to spot pedestrians in the path of the car. At up to 35 kmph, the system will stop the car if it is about to hit a person. Frankly speaking, one has to get used to it for the car suddenly braking itself can be scary. At the end of the day, “stylish”, “modern” and “appealing” are the words that come to the mind when describing the all-wheel-drive S60. Its 3-litre engine produces the kind of torque that gives it surprisingly brisk acceleration while peak output is more than enough to pitch it against the sportiest of sedans and come out on top. Seating comfort is exceptional up front, thanks to Volvo’s orthopaedically correct seat design. The S60 holds appeal for those who take a shine to its trendy design and want an entry level luxury sedan with power aplenty, comfortable ride and tidy handling too. Not to forget state-of-the-art safety.Engine: 2953 ccMax power: 304 bhp@5600 rpmMax torque: 440 Nm@2000 rpmGearbox: 6-speed autoWheelbase (mm): 2776LxWxH (mm): 4628 x 2097 x 2776Top Speed: 250 kmph0-100 kmph: 6.1secPrice: Rs. 34 Lakh, ex-showroom, DelhiRating: ****Tour reportThe Volvo S60 has a 380-litre boot, which, though not the largest, will suffice for cargo space requirements of most people. The fact that the rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split ratio ensures that the boot can be used flexibly. The car should make for a decent vehicle to tour in, courtesy its comfortable seats, ride quality and powerful engine.Close upThe S60’s 3-litre engine develops a very healthy 440 Nm of peak torque at a low 2000 rpm, which makes it very driveable. The peak power output is a whopping 304 bhp.The S60 is made of fine materials and the plushness can be felt throughout the cabin. The controls also feel crisp and nice to operate, while ergonomics are top notch with every button, lever or switch falling into hand almost intuitively.A coupe-like roofline, aggressive haunches and stylistically treated cornering headlamps and bonnet up the good looks quotient of the Swedish sedan.A low loading lip height makes it easy to access the boot. Both rear seats fold down and there’s a separate ski pass-through as well for accessing the boot from inside the car.TVS Apache 180 ABSResearch shows that majority of motorcycle accidents happens when braking goes wrong. It can happen while avoiding an obstacle or when riding over poor roads or even changing road conditions like slippery roads thanks to the first drizzle or an oil spill. But, if you ride motorcycles, you probably know it already because, like me, you must have had numerous heart-stopping moments and a few crashes as well. The new TVS Apache 180 ABS now comes with a cure for this: ABS or Anti-Lock Braking System. Just like in cars, the system offers better control, especially in low grip conditions. Of course, we already have ABS on bikes in India, but those are all imports, and unquestionably, very expensive. So, the Apache not only becomes the first Indian-made motorcycle to sport one, but also the first one in the world for motorcycles under 200 cc. But, we are mainly excited because, ABS can actually allow you to ride faster, on both road and track. The ideal way to brake for a corner, you’d agree, is to get on the brakes hard initially and then get progressively lighter, making the bike stable at turn-in and through a corner. We start braking gingerly to get a feel of the road (to avoid lock-ups and skidding), then begin braking hard and end up slower, unsure, and twitchy. With the new Apache, no matter what, you can simply grab the brake lever really hard, feel the ABS working through the pulsating lever and then modulate it depending on how fast you want to enter the corner. Soon one tends to feel comfortable with hard braking and the control alongside that it becomes impossible to ride slowly! I seriously recommend that all should have a go at it because the benefits of ABS truly need to be felt to be believed. Price: Rs. 78,800 ex-showroom, Delhi.–Vikrant Singhadvertisementadvertisement
NEW YORK, N.Y. – A former food company executive who admitted feeding inside information to an influential Las Vegas gambler linked to golfer Phil Mickelson was sentenced on Thursday to two years in prison by a judge who said he was motivated by a desire to seem powerful rather than by greed.“This was a crime that enhanced his status as a peacock,” U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel said, ordering Dallas-based Dean Foods Co.’s ex-chairman Thomas Davis to pay nearly $9 million in restitution and to forfeit nearly $1 million for a conspiracy that ran from at least 2008 through 2014.The judge said Davis, 68, “paraded through Dallas as a peacock … when he was a phoney, a fraud and a crook.”“This was not a crime of greed,” the judge said, adding, “It’s a real shame.”Davis had a good upbringing and served in the U.S. Navy before attending Harvard Business School, the judge noted. Afterward, Davis earned more than $1 million annually before getting $10 million when the investment bank where he worked was bought. The judge acknowledged Davis was a pivotal co-operator who testified at trial against gambler William “Billy” Walters. Mickelson had to repay $1 million in stock profits after receiving a tip from Walters but wasn’t charged.Walters was convicted last spring of making more than $40 million through illegal trading and was sentenced to five years in prison. His lawyer said the prosecution hung on a witness’ lies. The judge criticized Davis for lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission and going on a $10,000 gambling junket just days after pleading guilty even though he knew he would owe restitution and a forfeiture amount at sentencing. Davis, who must surrender on Jan. 9, apologized. The judge also criticized Davis for misappropriating $100,000 in 2011 from a Dallas-based charity he oversaw to cover gambling debts he accumulated during a trip to a Las Vegas casino.Prosecutors said in court papers the thrice-married Davis had lived a lavish lifestyle that included luxury travel, fancy cars, membership in private clubs and gambling trips on which he spent tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars.Davis spent so much money that he eventually sought and obtained from Walters two loans totalling more than $800,000, which were “essentially forgiven” in return for the inside information he regularly provided to Walters, prosecutors said. The government also said Davis made revelations from the witness stand that prosecutors had not heard before, including the frequency with which he used escort services.Assistant U.S. Attorney Brooke Cucinella told the judge that Davis was a “committed” co-operator who provided information that was “incredibly devastating at trial.”Defence attorney Benjamin Naftalis called his client’s co-operation “extraordinary and crucial.”“He was the key and star witness of the trial,” he said.Davis, addressing the judge, said he was a changed man and was “grateful for my newfound humility.”
Legislation to build an aerial tram to take paying visitors to a riverside boardwalk in the Grand Canyon has been voted down by the Navajo Nation Council.Members of the council voted 16-2 against the bill during a special session Tuesday in Window Rock, Arizona. It was the first time the full council had taken up the measure since it was introduced last year. The proposal had gotten a cold reception from lawmakers from the nation’s largest American Indian reservation even before Tuesday’s lengthy debate. Some lawmakers raised concerns about the development resulting in more public safety demands, while others questioned a requirement for the tribe to invest $65 million for roads, water and power lines, and communications at the 420-acre site that borders Grand Canyon National Park on the reservation.Council delegates amended the legislation to change the operating license from non-revocable to revocable, to delete language to prevent other development within a 15-mile radius and along access roads, and to strike a non-taxation provision before voting on the bill. The amendments didn’t convince them the project should move forward.Developers had said the tram and accompanying retail and hotel sites at the East Rim could be running by May 2021 had everything gone as planned. They did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment after the vote.Critics showed up to urge lawmakers to oppose the project as the debate finally got under way late Tuesday afternoon. Those included families who hold grazing permits and leases to build homes in the area. They have said the area is sacred and the proposed development would mar the landscape where the Colorado River meets the blue-green waters of the Little Colorado River.Declaring victory over what they termed a “monster,” they praised the council’s vote on social media and let out loud cheers outside the council chambers.“They heard us,” activist Renae Yellowhorse said of the council members. “We needed to be a presence there to let them know we’re not going to go away. We’re going to always be here to defend our Mother, to defend our sacred sites.”Environmentalists and outdoor enthusiasts also decried the measure. Actor Robert Redford released a video last December voicing opposition, and an online petition against the proposal has collected thousands of signatures. The vote came ahead of a tribal election year and as the tribe prepares for the loss of hundreds of jobs with the expected shutdown of a coal-fired power plant and its supply mine in 2019.Lamar Whitmer, part of the Scottsdale-based Confluence Partners development group, previously said the East Rim project could employ up to 3,500 people on a reservation where half the workforce is unemployed. The management team includes former Navajo President Albert Hale and others who have helped develop resorts and theme parks.Under the legislation, the Navajo Nation’s share of revenue was based on the number of visitors. The tribe would have been guaranteed a minimum 8 per cent of gross revenue, developers say.___Associated Press writer Susan Montoya Bryan in Albuquerque, New Mexico, contributed to this report

New Delhi: East Delhi woke up to a brisk start as Delhi went to polls on Sunday. The constituency which snail-paced in the morning in terms of voting percentage picked up pace in the afternoon and closed at approximately 61.95, third after North East Delhi which scored 63.45 topping the list followed by Chandni Chowk which came second with 62.69 percent. With this, the fate of AAP candidate from East Delhi Atishi, BJP’s Gautam Gambhir and Congress Arvinder Singh Lovely is locked in the EVMs.The educational background of Atishi is up against the stardom of BJP’s Gautam Gambhir and the experience of Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely. Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, who is also the BJP candidate from east Delhi on Sunday voted along with his wife at a polling station in Old Rajendra Nagar area. “I urge the voters especially the first time voters to come to vote because voting is the biggest power one has. Even the voters should bring in their friends to the polling booths,’ Gambhir urged Delhi residents after casting his vote early morning. However, Atishi felt that women security is the biggest issue which women of east Delhi would vote for. Stepping out after casting her vote she appeared confident of her win. “I think women security is the biggest issue in East Delhi, especially for areas like Trilopuri and kalyanpuri where women struggle with illegal liquor being sold in the areas . It is, however, a clear battle between AAP and BJP and the silent voter has always been a voter of AAP,” Atishi said. “This is not an election for Arvinder Singh Lovely, it is an election for trans Yamuna people. The celebrity status of Gambir won’t work, we have seen Chetan Chauhan earlier, people haven’t seen him again,” Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
The Ohio State women’s volleyball team fended off fellow in-state universities this weekend to win the Sports Imports Classic at St. John Arena.Bowling Green, Cleveland State and Xavier all fell victim to the Buckeyes (12-1 overall, 3-0 in the tournament), who dropped only one set the entire weekend.Xavier (7-6) had an opportunity to win the event on Saturday night with a victory over OSU, but the Buckeyes won all three sets, pushing the Musketeers into a second-place finish at 2-1.OSU played better as the match went on, winning the final set 25-6 after more competitive bouts of 27-25 and 25-18. Junior Katie Dull led the Bucks with 17.5 points, including 13 kills.Earlier Saturday, OSU faced its toughest challenge against Cleveland State. The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, sparked by a 26-24 win in the first set. However, OSU rolled out three consecutive winning sets, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-15.Senior Kristen Dozier paced Ohio State with 17 points and 15 kills. On Friday, the Buckeyes swept away Bowling Green in three quick sets, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-13.Freshmen Amanda Peterson and Emily Danks and redshirt senior Chelsea Noble all represented Ohio State on the tournament team, Peterson being honored as the event’s Most Valuable Player.Cleveland State (11-4) finished third at 1-2, and Bowling Green (7-6) failed to record a victory, finishing up 0-3.The Buckeyes head to Illinois on Friday and Northwestern on Saturday for a pair of Big Ten road games to kick off conference play.
After starting the season 11-1, the No. 3 ranked Ohio State wrestling team is looking to avoid a midseason slump and finish the season strong. The Buckeyes were in a similar position the past two years and ended each season by finishing second in the nation. Coach Tom Ryan believes this team is capable of a similar finish.“Finishing second the past two years has resulted in a very positive environment,” said Ryan, the reigning National Coach of the Year. “There is a strong sense of pride among the team members.”The addition of talented freshmen along with the return of some key upperclassmen has the team’s outlook looking bright, senior captain Reece Humphrey said.“We’ve improved at every single weight class [since last year],” said Humphrey, who is the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 141 pounds. “Younger guys have filled into their potential, that’s what it’ll take to win nationals.”Despite its young guns, the team’s heart and soul is its senior class, more specifically Humphrey, the national runner-up at 133 pounds last season. The two other senior captains, Mike Pucillo and Lance Palmer, are both three-time All-Americans.“Reece Humphrey has been wrestling well up at 141 [pounds] … Lance Palmer has been wrestling very well also,” Ryan said. “There are not too many surprises in the sport; the people that work hard consistently do well. It boils down to the right habits, those with great habits do well.”Ryan has gotten in the habit of watching his seniors have remarkable success, which he claims comes as no accident.“Our senior class is leading us,” Ryan said. “This is a team with five seniors who have worked very hard to bring the program to the level it is currently at.”Ryan believes the other team members feed off the triumphs of his accomplished seniors.“Success breeds success,” Ryan said. “Wrestling is a sport that requires a tremendous amount of energy and a strong mentality. It is very helpful when athletes at a very high level are training alongside each other; it gives them a great frame of reference to where they stand in the sport.”Humphrey believes the Buckeyes may finally have what it takes to bring home a national title after coming up short two years in a row.“We have the individuals to win the title,” Humphrey said. “If a couple of the younger guys turn it up at nationals, we’ll have a good shot.Ryan thinks the team’s achievements over the past few seasons have landed them a vast amount of faith in themselves.“This is a team that believes they can win an NCAA team title,” Ryan said. “The previous two runner-up finishes have strengthened this team’s confidence.”

Too many times it looks like we don’t like running but we also need to learn how to do the things we don’t like,” he explained.“When on the ball we know what to do. We need a change in mentality when off the ball. We don’t have time to wait, we are lacking some grit”.“We are leaving too many points behind, but we are not doing that bad. We need to keep believing in our qualities,” Gattuso continued.“I agree with the club: we need to improve our fifth-sixth place mentality and remedy mistakes that are preventing us from playing with continuity. At times we should be more clinical. We are lacking belief, it happens that we are afraid we won’t win, as it happened against Atalanta”.

Current budget talks are slated to continue in March during a joint session between the district and the borough. The assembly ultimately agreed and chose not to move forward with the additional funding, citing concerns about using too much of the borough’s fund balance. Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享Budget negotiations are continuing between the Kenai Peninsula Borough and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. Among those negotiations is a request for $600,000 for more school counselors. In July of 2018, the borough denied a similar request from the district for $600,000. The school district had planned to utilize those funds to hire mental health and safety counselors for elementary schools, according to the district. KPB Mayor Charlie Pierce: “I supported the additional funding for schools, I just did not agree where they want to get the money. The put an extra $600,000 in the budget to pay for it, and then want to go out and tax you for it. I don’t agree with that.” The district hopes to create four new elementary counselors, and also have more than the two counselors currently offered to students at Kenai Central High School.
We know events. After working with over a thousand events in the past three years — small, huge and everywhere in between — we’ve learned that there are two ways to approach trade shows, expos, and conferences. The first and most prevalent way people define these events is as a “happening.” A three-day extravaganza that descends on a venue like a battalion of soldiers, bustling through booths, herding into keynotes, and swapping business cards and cocktails. Then, everyone goes home and takes a sick day, the event fading from their memories in a haze until next year.Face-to-face events will always feature this component; it’s the backbone of our industry. But with recently-plateaued industry growth and a rising tide of digital competition, organizers must get the most mileage out of their events or risk obsolescence. Therefore, the second and more slow-burning way to think of events is as a brand unto themselves. Publishers will nod knowingly at this, even if attendees and exhibitors don’t think of events that way. We must recognize the event experience itself as a 365-day-a-year ROI opportunity. Publishers work year-round to produce amazing events as well as amazing media, so why limit brand engagement to a few days? This is the way Feathr approaches events. Publisher-hosted events create a marketplace between your attendees and exhibitors — but are you doing everything you can to monetize your audience year-round? It starts with leveraging the data you already have, like content consumption trends, webinar attendance, and session attendance at last year’s event. Using this data, you may already be providing compelling content marketing to distinct segments of users. You can also maximize your event ROI by making sure sponsors and audiences get connected via technology, data points, and face-to-face meetings. Your exhibitors want access to attendees — not just during the event, but before and after as well. By taking a 365-day perspective and leveraging digital tools and audience data, you can provide value and monetize access between those parties throughout the year.Start small by simply keeping in touch with event audiences. Email, social media, and the event app itself are excellent starting places. Publishing engaging content and having industry-specific webinars, niche events, and discussions a few times a year keeps your event at the top of your audience’s mind, as do digital tactics like retargeting and omni-channel marketing.Let go of the idea that your every move be aimed at driving registrations. Focus on providing educational and entertainment value year-round with content like articles, polls, photos, or videos. Featuring exhibitors and sponsors throughout the year is another way to elicit cross-promotional opportunities and expand the audience of both brands. This can be done by driving traffic to referral landing pages and including them in your digital and live outreach events. A year-round engagement plan only needs to inspire an audience to think about your brand during the off season. That’s part of the overall experience, and it’s essential in today’s market. Here at Feathr, we are always happy to hear from publishers who want to get more ROI out of their events. How do you engage your audience 24/7/365?Sponsored by Feathr: Understand and interact with each attendee and exhibitor at scale, to deliver the most relevant experience across any channel. Paraguayan president Horacio Cartes shakes hands with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting at the latter’s office in Jerusalem, following the dedication ceremony of the embassy of Paraguay in Jerusalem, on 21 May 2018. Reuters File PhotoIsraeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the closure of Israel’s embassy in Paraguay on Wednesday, hours after the Latin American nation’s new government announced it would move its embassy back to Tel Aviv from Jerusalem.Paraguay’s decision was a blow to Israel’s efforts to achieve external recognition of Jerusalem as its capital, which appeared to have gained some traction this year with the United States, Guatemala and Paraguay opening embassies there. Most countries do not recognise Israeli sovereignty over the entire city and say its final status should be set in peace talks.Paraguay’s foreign minister called Israel’s reaction “disproportionate.” Paraguay president Mario Abdo defended his decision as part of an effort to support “broad, lasting and just peace” among Israelis and Palestinians.“Paraguay is a country of principles,” Abdo said on Twitter.Abdo took office last month and belongs to the same conservative party as his predecessor Horacio Cartes, who inaugurated Paraguay’s new embassy in Jerusalem in May.The Palestinians said their foreign minister, Riyad al-Maliki, met Abdo two weeks ago and hailed Paraguay’s change of mind as “a new Palestinian diplomatic achievement.”“Minister Maliki exerted a big effort during his meeting with the new president who instructed his foreign minister to arrange the issue,” the Palestinian foreign ministry said in a statement.Israel acted swiftly after the news broke and a statement in English from the prime minister’s office said: “Israel views with utmost gravity the extraordinary decision by Paraguay which will cloud bilateral relations.”The status of Jerusalem is one of the thorniest obstacles to forging a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians. Israel regards all of the city, including the eastern sector that it annexed after the 1967 war, as its capital. But the Palestinians, with broad international backing, want East Jerusalem for the capital of a future state they hope to establish in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. Negotiations between the two sides broke down in 2014.In December, US president Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, reversing decades of US policy and upsetting the Arab world and Western allies. The United States opened a new embassy in Jerusalem on 14 May. Guatemala and then Paraguay opened embassies there afterward.Netanyahu has attempted to persuade other countries to follow their lead.On Wednesday while meeting Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borissov, Netanyahu said: “I appreciate your decision to open an honorary consulate in Jerusalem, and I hope, I hope, I hope it’s the first step towards establishing the Bulgarian embassy in Jerusalem.”
